Processor Speed & Memory Requirements
As a guide, 150-200Mhz is fast enough for word processing, 400+ Mhz for DVD playback, 500 Mhz+ for higher-end graphics & games applications; beyond this processor speed is just luxury. More importantly, RAM memory makes a difference, anything above 32-64 Mb RAM is an improvement, although beyond 128-256 Mb the benefits are less obvious except on commercial photo or video editing. Machines running Win XP all absorb 32Mb more RAM than Win98/Me for operating system memory requirements. Last year's games tend to require 150-300Mhz speed/64Mb RAM, top end latest releases now require 500-800Mhz/128Mb RAM and 32-64Mb graphics cards. A Ghz is 1000Mhz. Business machines need far less speed and power than your average home games user.
