TomTom CityMaps plans the best route from the user's exact location to their desired destination. When planning a route TomTom CityMaps takes account of whether the user will be driving or walking. If driving, the user can gain information on all one-way systems and can request a route that avoids known traffic hotspots. If walking, the user can view any pedestrian shortcuts. The maps on TomTom CityMaps display the smallest side streets as well as the more major thoroughfares so always show the best route through a city..
The CD-ROM edition of TomTom CityMaps offers door-to-door route planning for over 240.000 cities in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
When used in conjunction with a GPS, TomTom CityMaps can pinpoint the user's exact location and display their position on the map. TomTom CityMaps can then track the user's progress to the desired destination making it impossible to get lost even when travelling in a city for the first time.
